First Flip For Profit

Nightmare furniture flip

This was my first official flip. Meaning the first dresser I got with the sole intention of flipping it for a profit. & man did it give me a run for my money. I bought it for $15 & ended up spending like $100 on it in total. Yeah that bad.

First off, I didn’t know what the heck I was doing & this thing needed veneer removed. But it WOULD NOT come off. I tried EVERYTHING. In hindsight I should of just tried to fill the chipped veneer with Bondo and called it good; but at the time I didn’t even know what Bondo was.

Again; I didn’t know what I was doing.

The end result left me with a pretty much ruined dresser. & this was after trying to get this crap off for a day and a half. Seriously it was so bad. Gashes from trying to scrape the veneer off; and half of it on one side STILL hanging strong.

I had to improvise; because I was not about to let this dresser defeat me. I ended up having to basically replace/cover the sides and bottom (so much for all that work). I ran to Home Depot and got some plywood and attached it to the sides & bottom with wood glue & a nail gun.

Luckily I was able to salvage the dresser from that point on. Lesson learned. I ended up painting it, added some much needed legs, and new handles. I had about $100 into it and luckily was able to still make a profit. I sold it for $250!

Although this was a nightmare of a first flip; I learned so much in the process (mostly what NOT to do).

I learned that furniture flipping with almost always come with some hiccups and unexpected problems; but as long as you stick with it & put on your improvising cap; you can save it!
